Turmeric essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizome of Curcuma longa, a plant of the Zingiberaceae family, mainly from India. It smells zesty, spicy and earthy, and sits as a middle note. People often add a small amount to autumn and winter blends, choosing it for warming mixes, muscle rubs and seasonal use alongside ginger, black pepper, cardamom or sweet orange. The safety point that matters most is that it may interact with diabetes medicines, so check with a pharmacist first if you take them. No maximum level for skin use has been published, so normal dilution still applies. The oil holds only traces of curcumin, and its aroma comes from turmerones.
